Van Werven recycles with green energy

Two thousand solar panels decorate the roofs of Van Werven Plastic Recycling in Biddinghuizen. A new raw material is produced with the green electricity in the recycling halls from plastic waste.

The panels were installed on the roofs of the industrial halls in November and December. Ton van der Giessen, CEO, says: “The installation of the solar panels and the use of green energy fits in with our long-term vision that is not only focused on recovering raw materials from waste, but also from generating sustainable energy.” Van der Giessen refers to the four wind turbines that will be running at Hattemerbroek in early 2021 and two other branches of Van Werven where hundreds of solar panels have also been installed.

Circular economy

Possibly more initiatives will be taken in the future to generate green energy. Van der Giessen: “Where we see opportunities, we use them. We have the space and the resources and it contributes to the realization of the necessary circular economy."
